Real Life Honeymoon Feature - Canada
Rachelle & Frans Lytzen got married at The Swan Hotel, Bibury in Gloucestershire on November 21st 2009 with their closest family and friends there to celebrate it.
WHERE?Our honeymoon was in Whistler, Canada
WHEN?
We went on January 9th and came back on the 24th – just before the Olympics.
WHY?
We are both big skiing fans and would never normally travel so far for a ski trip. We both loved the idea of skiing for our honeymoon and we wanted to go away for two weeks so Canada seemed like the perfect place. We’d heard good things about Whistler so took the plunge!
WHAT DID YOU DO?
The flights and hotel were about £3,000 for the both of us. The ski passes were quite expensive - £200 a week each – but the equipment hire was very reasonable. In total, I think we spent about £5,000 including food.
Through your SendUsPacking gift list, did you receive a gift that made your honeymoon even more memorable? Just being able to go out there and have a wonderful time together was all we wanted, knowing that our friends and family supported us. We felt like they were all there with us in spirit.
We did lots of skiing! There are lots of shops in Whistler and it’s really easy to travel around if you want to. We took a day trip into Vancouver which was amazing. Just the bus ride exposes you to some of the most magnificent views and everywhere you look you can see mountains. In Vancouver itself you can see the sea, mountains, forest and a bustling city so there’s something for everyone.
MOST ROMANTIC MOMENT?
There were a few but getting an early pass to go up Whistler mountain and watching the sun rise was incredible. To be honest, just being together and gliding down the mountain on fresh snow every day was the best experience.
IT'S GREAT FOR HONEYMOONERS BECAUSE...
If you’re big skiers then Whistler is definitely a place you need to experience. If you’re not big ski fans but like winter wonderlands then you’ll find there’s plenty to do besides skiing and snowboarding, including dog sledding, ziptrek, sleigh rides, snowmobiling and so much more.
